Tim Sherwood insists one Tottenham star will always ‘let you down’

Tim Sherwood has blasted Emerson Royal for having a rush of blood to his head against Arsenal, insisting that the right-back will always let Tottenham down in big moments.

Emerson has started all but one of Tottenham’s games across all competitions so far this season and the Brazilian has earned Antonio Conte’s praise for his displays (Football London).

However, the 23-year-old had an afternoon to forget on Saturday as he was sent off for the first time in his Tottenham career on the back of a nasty challenge on his compatriot Gabriel Martinelli on 62 minutes.

Emerson’s red card came when the game was poised at 2-1, and it essentially ended any hope that the Lilywhites had of getting back into the encounter.

Sherwood insisted that the former Real Betis man can have no complaints about the referee’s decision, and insisted that the right-back will always be a liability for Spurs.

The pundit said on talkSPORT on 03/10/22 at 9:15 AM: “The guy will let you down time and time again. He always has this rush of blood in him.

“Absolutely no need to do it, I do think it is a little bit harsh. But I don’t think you can argue with the decision.”

I do not think Emerson can dispute the red card decision but having said that, I do not think there would have been too many complaints from Arsenal players if the referee had shown a yellow card for the Spurs man.

I do not think there was any maliciousness involved in Emerson’s challenge. It was just a lapse in concentration and one could tell that he immediately regretted the challenge.
