Tim Sherwood predicts how Spurs will get on in London derby against West Ham

With the international games now done and dusted, Tottenham will resume Premier League action this weekend with a derby game against West Ham United at the London Stadium.

With a quarter of the season gone, Mauricio Pochettino’s men find themselves in 14th place in the table, and failure to win the game on Saturday will seriously dent any hopes of a top-four finish this season.

Spurs are yet to win a single game away from home in the Premier League so far this season, but thankfully for the Lilywhites, the Hammers’ recent form is just as terrible, if not worse.

Manuel Pellegrin’s side find themselves two places below Spurs in the Premier League table and, if their recent performances are anything to go by, then a potential relegation battle looks on the cards for the East Londoners.

Former Spurs manager Tim Sherwood has stressed the importance of the game for both sides and backed Tottenham to just edge the match on Saturday.

Speaking to talkSPORT’s Alan Brazil’s Sports Breakfast (Monday, 9:15am), Sherwood said, “It is a massive game for both clubs and both sets of fans. Both desperately need a win, but I think Spurs might nick a 2-1 win.”

If Tottenham are held to draw or suffer another away defeat on Sunday, then they could go dangerously close to the drop zone. Given how poor a run West Ham have been on recently, another loss in this game could potentially be a blow that Pochettino might not recover from.
