Tim Sherwood says one Spurs star has now ‘been found out’ by opponents

Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper, Guglielmo Vicario, continues to draw criticism from pundits after his latest display. Now, former Spurs manager, Tim Sherwood, has claimed the Italian is too weak and will be targeted by opponents.

Vicario started the season in fine form, earning plaudits from fans and pundits for his impressive shot-stopping, distribution, and energetic attitude.

Indeed, the Spurs stopper very quickly established himself as the new number-one keeper at the club and made fans forget all about Hugo Lloris.

But, in recent weeks, the Italian has seen his reputation take a hit due to some controversial decisions in the box, namely from set-pieces.

Should Vicario be stronger at set-pieces?

Some say Vicario is being unfairly targeted by opponents who are being too physical and earning an advantage through unsportsmanlike means. However, some say the Spurs man should be stronger when it comes to commanding his area and handling set-piece deliveries.

Tim Sherwood has had his say, telling the Kelly and Wrighty Show that Vicario has been too weak and might not be up to the standards of the Premier League.

He said: “The goalkeeper has been found out, he’s going to be a target now. He seems like he’s very weak from crosses and people are going to target that now. This is the best league in the world with all due respect, it’s not Japan, it’s not Australia.”

No, Vicario hasn’t been found out, he is being pushed around and blocked at set-pieces and should be protected by referees. In the last week we have seen Bournemouth and Manchester United punished for far less when it comes to contact with goalkeepers in the box, so let’s hope the rule is changing.

Sherwood is always so negative about Spurs, it’s a little bit odd really. And why is he mentioning Japan and Australia? Seems to be a thinly-veiled dig at Ange Postecoglou there, too.
