Timo Werner reveals his prediction to Tottenham teammate came true against Forest

Timo Werner has revealed that he told Micky van de Ven prior to the clash against Nottingham Forest that the centre-back would find the back of the net.

The game on Sunday followed a familiar pattern to what we have seen from Spurs over the last few months as the home side did not have as much control of the game as they would have liked in the first half.

Forest deservedly went into the break level after Chris Wood cancelled out the home side’s opener, which was created thanks to some excellent wide play by Werner.

However, as has become the norm these days, the Lilywhites stepped up their intensity in the second period and the away side struggled to cope with the pressure.

Tottenham’s goals in the second half came from unusual sources, with Van de Ven lashing in the second goal into the top corner on 52 minutes while Pedro Porro also produced a sweet strike six minutes later to put the game beyond Nuno Espirito Santo’s men.

Timo Werner is doing his best for Tottenham

Speaking after the 3-1 win, Werner told Sky Sports: “I do my best to assist and help the team with those runs and those balls. Luckily, the opponent put the ball in the net. I am happy this guy [Micky van de Ven] scored a goal today.

“I think we started not bad. I think we had control of the game. The goal was a good attack from Forest. They had some chances when we weren’t at our highest level.

“It was a deserved win in the end. Yesterday, I said to Micky that maybe you can score with your head. I am enjoying it a lot with this team and this guy.”

While Werner is a natural fit for Ange’s system and has shown that he can make defining contributions, it is also worth noting that the 28-year-old comes across as a great human and has seemingly fitted very nicely into the Spurs dressing room.

That is something that Postecoglou and his coaching staff would appreciate as they quite clearly want to ensure that the squad is filled with the right sort of characters so that there is a family feel at the club.
