The Tottenham academy graduate, who is yet to make a competitive first-team appearance for the Lilywhites, admitted that he thoroughly enjoyed his time in Sweden as the club escaped relegation in their final match of the season (Tottenham’s official website).

The goalkeeper has now returned to Degerfors for a second loan spell, with reports indicating that the 23-year-old penned a new contract in North London before going out on loan (Karlskoga Tidning-Kuriren via Fotboll Transfers).

Werner has now admitted that everyone at Degerfors is delighted to have the Tottenham man back for a second spell.

The Swedish club’s director told their official website: “It’s very nice to get him back. Alfie is a very good goalkeeper and a fantastic person.

“We are very happy to be able to solve this again with him and Tottenham.”

Whiteman also admitted his happiness at being back at the club where he shone last season.

The goalkeeper said on his loan move: “I have received so much love and support from the fans, which I appreciated very much.

“Like I said when I was last here, the culture around the club and the fans is fantastic.”

It makes sense for Spurs to send Whiteman back to an environment where he is comfortable and is guaranteed regular game time.

It is always tricky to find the right loan moves for goalkeepers as every team can only have one number one. So, Tottenham have made the right call to send the 23-year-old back to Sweden.
