Toby Alderweireld makes bold statement about Tottenham’s season on social media

Toby Alderweireld has caused somewhat of a stir on social media following his post about Tottenham Hotspur’s 2-1 win at Newcastle United this afternoon.

The Belgian defender was heavily linked with a move away from Tottenham during the summer transfer window, but a move to Manchester United failed to materialise.

Alderweireld found himself named among the substitutes for the trip to St James’ Park and watched his team-mates get off to winning ways, with Jan Vertonghen and Davinson Sanchez preferred by Mauricio Pochettino at centre-half.

Following the final whistle, Toby took to social media and gave Spurs fans hope that he is now planning on remaining at the club until at least the end of the season.

He said on Twitter: “First game, first win! Let’s go & win the title in our new stadium! #COYS #THFC”

Hopefully, Alderweireld will now see sense and put pen to paper on a new contract.

Have something to tell us about this article?

  1. Alderweireld must start his quality was badly missed the defence at times were running around with their heads chopped off , hurry back Trippier and Wanyama and Rose would be worth a game or two Davies was very poor Dier is a lost soul and for the life of me I can`t understand how Sissoko gets a kick , Mouca is hopeless , when we meet the big boys god help us .

  2. Apart from losing his position easily, Aurier was reckless and got many unnecessary yellow cards. He lost three penalties last season. Please sell him to raise fund (and save wages) as soon as possible.

KWP is much better than him in that position.

  3. Aurier, Sissoko and dier are all liabilities, everytime I watch us with them playing it is like playing 7 outfield players.

3 at the back wish rose waneed to stay but Davies trippie, Victor in front, ericksen who tracks back a lot anyway and can spread the ball from deep and keep an attacking 4

  4. hmm.. i personally thought that although i like sanchez, he was culpable of ball watching for the first goal.. he was caught in all the ICC games too.. aurier and sissy are liabilities.. always have been, always will be…
i dont understand how sissy got the nod over son.. davis was quiet but i thought did his job well when called upon. I dont agree with the moura comment, i thought he looked bright and confident on the ball…one of the better players on the field.. i dont think the position he was playing suited him, he was too far advanced to get the ball and run at the defense, which worries the hell outta them….his only option was to try and pull them out of shape and make room for eriksen to do what he does. kane looked tired and frustrated. all in all, i thought it was a hard earned 3 the end of the season, we will look back and see the score and the points rather than the performance.. these players are (mostly) all young, they will learn and you learn from your mistakes (…hopefully lol) i would much rather us have lots of room to improve early in the season while picking up points and then hit form we expect as Spurs fans after xmas than to blow everyone away in the first few games, think its too easy and then struggle from february onwards.

  5. Sadly my first choice for right back replacement is on his way here (to indonesia) sonny has slotted in well there in the past but that means we need a back 3. Poch needs to wake up and get that donkey out of the squad. He doesn’t even warrant a place on the bench. Aurier that is. He’s a damn fool. The pretender. How many stray passes and occasions losing possession will it take for poch to see it. Moura can’t play well with that kunt behind him either so don’t crucify him

  6. Toby has conducted himself like a real pro. A top player and top guy. Get him back in the side ASAP and do everything possible to mend bridges and get him signed to a new contract.

  7. I have always viewed Tottenham as a stronger and more cohesive unit with three at the back. Alderweireld would walk into any top PL side and the sooner we bring him back the better. Aurier’s strengths are in his forward play and Trippier, and KWP as argued above, have better all round games. We were not at our best at the back yesterday but it is early days. Great to see Dembele back.

  8. I totally agree with Jay j. Those 3, especially that complete donkey sissoko are big big liabilities and if he continues to back them, then sadly it will cost us. Please poch, get sissoko outa there.

  9. How many of you know football? We can’t play our best 11 for every game of the season. The Geordies wanted to scrap and poch played a midfield which was up for it. Aurier played one of the best crosses you’re likely to see all season and in case no one noticed, we won. And our midfield wasn’t over run. Kane was the worst player on the pitch who like Dier will find form. Going forward, aurier looks strong and direct and although he does get a tad too robust at times, playing time will help correct that.
