Toby Alderweireld posts message to Spurs fans after returning this week

Toby Alderweireld has posted a message of gratitude after returning to Tottenham to watch the club’s match against Vitesse Arnhem on Thursday.

The 32-year-old departed Spurs in the summer for Qatari outfit Al-Duhail which brought an end to a stint lasting six years in North London.

Alderweireld made 236 appearances in total for Spurs while forming an infamous defensive partnership with Belgium compatriot Jan Vertonghen.

While his move away from the club happened during the summer, he never managed to receive the send-off he deserved from Spurs fans, with the season at the time at a close.

However, he made his return to N17 on Thursday evening and was given a belated goodbye, after being presented in front of the Spurs faithful ahead of the club’s Europa Conference League tie against Vitesse.

Alderweireld has since posted a heartfelt thank you message on his Twitter feed, in which he also stated he will be keeping an eye on the club’s performances for the rest of the season.

Alderweireld was an excellent servant of the club and was more than deserving of the send-off he received on Thursday night. He was a great defender for the club and his performances earned him a great endearment from Spurs fans around.
