Toby Alderweireld sends message to fans after Inter Milan loss

Tottenham Hotspur rounded off their pre-season campaign with a penalty shoot out defeat to Inter Milan.

Spurs took the lead just three minutes into the first half when a counter attack saw Erik Lamela release Lucas Moura who powered his shot past the goalkeeper.

Inter levelled the score nine minutes before the break when they opened up the Spurs defence and Stefano Sensi showed good composure to beat Hugo Lloris.

After the match Toby Alderweireld, who played the second half of the match at the new Spurs stadium took to Twitter.

The Belgian dropped a hint that he could be with the club beyond the closure of Thursday’s transfer deadline for English clubs when he referenced the return of the Premier League.

Spurs start their top flight campaign with the visit of newcomers Aston Villa to North London in a Saturday evening kick off.

Fans will certainly be hoping that Alderweireld is named in the starting eleven.

It is somewhat remarkable that no club triggered the 30-year-old’s £25million transfer release clause which expired late last month, with Levy having now said to have increased his price tag to £40million (Independent).
