Tottenham Hotspur may have lost 13 games in all competitions this season, but fans won’t want to be changing their central defensive duo any time soon.
Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen grew up together at Ajax, have developed together playing for Belgium, and gel together week in week out for Spurs.
Unfortunately, both now have just one year left on their current contracts at Tottenham, after they were each treated to an extension earlier in the year.
However, Alderweireld’s extension triggered a worrying clause in his contract that could allow him to leave this summer for just £25m (Guardian).
The Belgian seems to be committing his short term future to the Lilywhites though, as he revealed in a recent interview that he intends to see out his contract in North London (DH Net)
Alderweireld also sent fans a message on Twitter this evening after appearing for Belgium, thanking people for their support and saying he will now recharge in time for the new campaign.
Have a good break and please come back to Spurs ???
