Toby Alderweireld writes classy message to Tottenham fans following exit

Toby Alderweireld has written a classy message on Instagram to Tottenham Hotspur fans after it was confirmed earlier this afternoon that he had left the club.

The 32-year-old has joined Qatar side Al-Duhail, in a deal that is said to be worth around £13million for the North Londoners (BBC).

He was part of the Belgium squad that lost to Italy in the quarter-finals of Euro 2020 this summer and was reported to have told Spurs that he wanted to leave the club ahead of the new season (The Athletic).

Alderweireld made 236 appearances in all competitions during his six years at Tottenham, where he scored nine goals and provided six assists (transfermarkt).

The central defender thanked the supporters for the way they embraced him following his move from Atletico Madrid and admitted that the club will always be in his heart.

Alderweireld will be remembered for his formidable partnership alongside compatriot Jan Vertonghen during the peak Mauricio Pochettino years at White Hart Lane in what was arguably the best Spurs side of their Premier League era.
