Tom Huddlestone reveals why he expects Mourinho to do ‘something special’ at Spurs

Former Tottenham midfielder Tom Huddlestone has said that Jose Mourinho looks to have his hunger for football back since arriving in North London and believes that the Portuguese coach could achieve something special at the club if given time.

Tottenham are still in touching distance of the top four in the Premier League and are still competing on all four fronts.

However, their poor run of form in the Premier League is a cause for concern, with the North Londoners having won just one of their last six league games.

While Mourinho’s men were being tipped for a title challenge just a few weeks ago, the proposition now looks quite difficult on the back of recent results.

Mourinho has come under some criticism for Tottenham’s lack of attacking ambition but Huddlestone is convinced that the 58-year-old will be successful if he is given time.

The former England midfielder suggested that he looks like a completely different person compared to his time at Manchester United.

Huddlestone told the Football Show on Sky Sports (13/01/21 at 12:25)“I think he (Mourinho) has got the bit between his teeth.

“When you see him in his interviews. He’s getting a little bit spikey and he’s enjoying his press conferences again.

“Whereas towards the end at Manchester United, he looked almost uninterested and I think he’s got the excitement back.

“You can sense something special happening at Tottenham over the next two to three seasons.”

Spurs Web Opinion

There is a vocal minority of Tottenham fans who never quite warmed to Mourinho but were kept quiet by the results we were getting at the start of the season. Each time we fail to win, they start becoming hypercritical of the Spurs boss’ tactics. The reality is that the team is showing some very good signs of having adapted to a new way of playing but it was always going to take time to reach a level where we can challenge for the title. Finishing in the top four and winning a trophy would be a brilliant season for us and I believe we are on course to achieve that.
