Tony Bellew wants to see one Tottenham man fight in the boxing ring

In an appearance on the No Tippy Tappy Football Podcast, boxer Tony Bellew has called for Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte to step into the boxing ring, and particularly wants to see the Italian take on Thomas Tuchel in a match.

Conte is renowned for his fiery temperament and no-nonsense approach to management. His strong desire to win at all costs and a ‘kill the opponent’ mentality has steered him well throughout his career, but can also get him in a spot of trouble from time to time.

The Spurs manager has already been sent off twice this season. Most recently, Conte was sent to the stands for remonstrating after the final whistle in the Champions League game against Sporting Lisbon, when Harry Kane’s late goal was ruled out for a controversial offside.

Earlier this season, Conte was dismissed for a heated confrontation with the then-Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel. The London rivals drew 2-2 at Stamford Bridge, and after the hotly-contested game the two managers shook hands and all chaos broke loose (The Guardian).

Tuchel reportedly felt disrespected by a lack of eye contact from Conte (Daily Mail) and the altercation ultimately saw both managers get a red card and a fine, while Tuchel was also banned from the touchline for one game by the FA.

The confrontation may have been a little unsavoury, but it was somewhat entertaining, too. So much so that boxing star Bellew would pay to watch the pair thrash out their issues in the ring.

When asked if football managers putting on boxing gloves and fighting it out would be a good idea, Bellew said: “Well, I think Thomas Tuchel and the Tottenham manager Antonio Conte had a little spat, didn’t they? I mean, I’d pay for those two to go at it properly.”

On the matter of who would win that fight, Bellew did say “[Tuchel] has a height advantage doesn’t he?” Regardless, there’s one man who he is certain would be a heavyweight contender. Bellew added: “But Big Sam, if I could train him for a week, that right hand would drop anybody.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Height difference or not, I don’t think Tuchel would stand a chance against Conte, especially not when he’s properly fired up. One thing’s for sure, though, I too would pay to watch that boxing match. And yes, I would also pay to see Sam Allardyce put his right hand to good use in a boxing ring.
