Tony Cascarino praises Spurs star he claims has had a ‘raw deal’ with the fans

Former Chelsea and Republic of Ireland striker Tony Cascarino has revealed that he is an admirer of Erik Lamela.

Cascarino claimed that he believes that the Argentine has not always been fairly treated by the Tottenham Hotspur fans or the respective managers he has played under during his time in North London.

Lamela arrived at Tottenham in a £25.7million deal from AS Roma in 2013 as one of the seven players arrived at the club following the sale of Gareth Bale to Real Madrid (BBC).

The 28-year-old has had more than his fair share of injury problems since moving to the Premier League including a hip problem which kept him out for 57 successive matches (transfermarkt).

Lamela has only started four Premier League matches this season but has looked lively at times which his hunger to get on the ball and make something happen with Jose Mourinho recently singling him out for special praise (Express).

Cascarino told talkSPORT (6:55am, February 13, 2021): “I have always liked him, and I have always thought that he had a raw deal, bit with the fans and bit by the managers.

“I think he makes things happen, certainly offensively, and he has got a bit of nasty streak in him.”
