Tony Pulis reveals what Spurs must do to keep Harry Kane in North London

Tony Pulis has insisted Spurs must begin to win trophies in order to keep Harry Kane at the club.

However, the former Stoke City manager added Jose Mourinho is the right man to deliver trophies for the North London outfit.

“Tottenham have got to start winning trophies. I don’t think you can criticise Kane too much,” Pulis told Stats Perform News via Yahoo.

“He’s a top player at international and club level. Over the past three or four years with Mauricio Pochettino, Spurs have been a top team. If you’d said they wouldn’t win anything three or four years ago I’d have been surprised – and I am.”

Spurs have not lifted a piece of major silverware since 2008 when they beat Chelsea in the Carling Cup final.

Despite insisting Kane will want to end his career having won trophies, Pulis insisted he is in a good place at the moment with Mourinho in charge.

“But the boy wants to win. And he has a manager who wants to win as well.

“They most probably need the backing from Daniel Levy and the club in some way and it’ll be difficult because of the financial crisis that has hit the world,” added Pulis.

In an interview with Jamie Redknapp on Instagram in March, Kane admitted he would not stay at Spurs “for the sake of it” as he intends to end his career having won trophies (Standard).

Kane made his breakthrough with Spurs in 2014 and has since scored 136 Premier League goals and won Premier League two golden boots (Transfermarkt).

Spurs Web Opinion

Kane has made it no secret that he wants to retire having won trophies and although he has come close at Spurs, ultimately, we have fallen short. I think Kane will give it time under Mourinho, however, if two seasons go by without a trophy I think we could be saying goodbye.

Could we see Kane move on in the near future if Mourinho is unable to steer Spurs in the way of trophies?
