‘Too much’ – Goalkeeper picks Spurs winger as most powerful he has faced

Illan Meslier has revealed that Steven Bergwijn’s shot is the most powerful he has faced for Leeds United in the Premier League so far.

Meslier has been a regular between the sticks for the Whites since their promotion back to the top-flight two years ago.

He was key to the side’s strong ninth-place finish in the table last term, but has faced a challenging second season with Leeds becoming embroiled in a relegation dogfight.

As such, the 21-year-old has been kept very busy with Leeds struggling on the defensive end, exposing him to plenty of efforts from attacking players.

Meslier was quizzed on who the best player he has come up against is, to which he named Mohamed Salah and Kevin De Bruyne, before the topic moved onto the most powerful shot he has faced.

The young Frenchman opted for an attempt from Tottenham winger Bergwijn during both sides’ first league meeting last season.

He told the Premier League on YouTube: “I think it was in Tottenham last season, I received a ball in the chest from Bergwijn. Oh my god, too much power, but I saved [it].”

Spurs Web Opinion

Of all the players Meslier could have chosen, it is interesting that he picked out Bergwijn’s shot from the home game last season.

Bergwijn does have a deceptively powerful shot in fairness, but maybe the fact it was in close made it a more potent attempt.
