‘Topsy-turvy’ – Paul Merson predicts the score for Tottenham vs Luton Town

Paul Merson has admitted that it is difficult to predict what Tottenham will produce on a weekly basis, given their inconsistency, but suggested that they should register a relatively straight-forward win against Luton Town.

After Tottenham’s 4-0 win over Villa Park earlier this month, Spurs fans would have thought that fourth place was theirs to lose, given the momentum and the confidence that the team would gain from that result.

However, Ange Postecoglou’s men were completely humbled a week later as Fulham tore them to shreds and handed them a 3-0 loss, which was the first time that the North London side had failed to score in a Premier League game this season.

While the international break has given time for the players as well as fans to recover from the disappointment, there is no doubt that Postecoglou will want a reaction from his troops when they step out at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday.

Tottenham vs Luton Town score prediction

Merson believes that the Australian will get the response he is looking for, backing Spurs to emerge comfortable winners over Luton.

The former Arsenal midfielder told Sportskeeda: “How do you thrash Aston Villa 4-0 at Villa Park and then go on and get absolutely destroyed by Fulham the next game? Tottenham are yet another side that needs to find consistency. The final scoreline in that hammering they suffered at Craven Cottage could have been much worse than 3-0.

“I think Spurs’ journey has been so topsy-turvy that it’s difficult to predict whether they’ll make it to the Champions League next season. Their home record is not great and inconsistency on your home turf is not a habit that teams that harbour Champions League aspirations can hope to accommodate.

“Ange Postecoglou’s men are likely to bounce back this weekend. From Luton’s point of view, it’s going to be about damage limitation here when they visit the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday.£

Prediction: Tottenham Hotspur 3-0 Luton Town.

Spurs Web Opinion

Luton are down there fighting for their lives and they will not make it easy for the home side.

If Tottenham expect to just turn up and blow the Hatters away, they might be in for a rude awakening, just like the one they got at Craven Cottage.

However, one would think that following the 3-0 loss two weeks ago, Postecolgou would not allow any complacency to creep in.
