Tottenham academy graduate retires to take up shock new career aged just 27

A 27-year-old, who left Tottenham Hotspur this summer after eight years at the club, has now hung up his boots to take up a new career.

At the start of the summer transfer window, Spurs confirmed that three senior players had been released by the club.

Alfie Whiteman, Fraiser Forster and Sergio Reguilon left Tottenham as free agents, and none of them have been picked up by any club since leaving N17.

It turns out that one of them has now called time on his career in a bid to explore his other big passion.

Alfie Whiteman quits football to take up an alternate career

Whiteman came through the ranks of the Tottenham youth sides before signing a professional contract.

During his time at Spurs, he had two loan spells with Swedish outfit Degerfors, but he was always far down the pecking order at the North London side.

The 27-year-old did not make a single senior appearance for the Lilywhites, and after being released by the club a few months ago, he has now decided to quit football.

This is according to The Athletic, who reveal that Whiteman’s limited first-team action prompted him to explore other interests, including acting classes, broadcasting, and photography.

The report says that Whiteman considered continuing his football career after being released by Spurs. However, the goalkeeper decided to retire on his own terms and is now pursuing a photography career.

Whiteman admits he was lucky to be part of his beloved Tottenham

In an interview with The Athletic a few months ago, the goalkeeper opened up on the trials and tribulations of being a third/fourth choice goalkeeper at a Premier League club.

Whiteman explained that he had to work hard in training and to prepare tactically for games, even though he knew he was not going to play.

The Spurs academy graduate also admitted that he learned a lot from having the chance to work with the likes of Hugo Lloris and Joe Hart, and revealed that he remains in touch with Michel Vorm.
