Tottenham Hotspur now appear to be closing in on a defensive addition this winter as their pursuit of Souza moves into its final stages.
Tottenham Hotspur remain keen on securing the services of Santos full-back Souza during the winter window.
The 19-year-old, who has an £80 million release clause, was expected to be available for less than half of that figure this January and has attracted attention from both Spurs and Chelsea.
However, it is Tottenham who have pushed ahead with formal bids for the full-back, recently seeing an £8 million offer turned down by the Brazilian club.

Tottenham agree fee with Santos for Souza
It was reported a few days after that rejected bid that Tottenham were set to return with an improved offer worth around £13 million, which would also include add-ons, as they refused to back down in their pursuit of the 19-year-old.
Fresh reports from Fabrizio Romano now claim that Spurs have finally made a breakthrough in their chase for Souza during this winter window.
It is understood that Santos and Tottenham have now agreed on a €15m transfer fee for the Brazilian left back.
The defender will travel to London on Sunday to complete the transfer and undergo a medical at Hotspur Way.
Romano wrote on X: “Tottenham, here we go! Deal in place for €15m fee as verbal agreement has been reached.
“Travel scheduled on Sunday after deal agreed with agency Bertolucci Sports and Santos accepting payment terms. Documents to be exchanged this weekend then all sealed.”
What Souza’s arrival could mean for Spurs?
With terms now agreed with Santos, Spurs appear close to finalising the deal, which would see Souza become their first signing of the winter window.
It now remains for the player to complete his medical, with Tottenham having already agreed personal terms with Souza, well before reaching an agreement on a fee with Santos.
The addition of the young full-back should come as a boost to Spurs’ backline, providing cover for Destiny Udogie, while Djed Spence will be an option on the right for Pedro Porro, who has barely been rested this season.
