Tottenham agree personal terms amid talks for first potential £13m January signing

Tottenham Hotspur appear to be stepping up their plans in the transfer market as they have now made a breakthrough in the pursuit of their first winter signing.

Reports of late have linked Tottenham Hotspur with a move for Santos left-back Souza as they look to strengthen their squad.

It is believed that the 19-year-old himself is keen on a move to north London to join Spurs, despite interest from elsewhere in the Premier League.

Spurs, however, are yet to reach a deal with Santos after having seen their £8 million bid rejected by the Brazilian side.

Tottenham agree personal terms with Souza

According to Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham Hotspur now look to have taken significant strides in their pursuit of the teenage left-back.

The transfer expert is now reporting that Spurs have agreed personal terms with Brazilian left-back Souza ahead of a potential move.

It is understood that while personal terms have been reached, negotiations remain underway with Santos, as a new bid is anticipated soon with key details still missing.

What happens next for Spurs in the Souza deal?

We reported yesterday that Spurs had sent in an improved £13m bid for Souza to Santos amid interest from London rivals Chelsea.

It is believed that the Brazilian side is demanding a total €30m (£26m) package for the full-back, who also has an £80m release clause.

However, Spurs could still reach an agreement with Santos as they are open to accepting around half of the £26m package upfront, with the remainder structured as add-ons.

With personal terms agreed, it now is up to the two sides to reach an agreement before Spurs officially get their first winter deal through the line.
