Tottenham and Arsenal could begin the season with North London derby abroad

Spurs overcame Ajax in dramatic fashion on Wednesday night to qualify for the Champions League final for the first team in their history.

They will now take on Liverpool on the 1st of June at Wanda Metropolitano in Madrid for the honour of being named European champions.

Meanwhile, the Europa League final will also be an all English affair after Arsenal thrashed Valencia 7-3 on aggregate courtesy of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s hattrick in the second leg at the Mestalla, and Chelsea overcame Eintracht Frankfurt on penalties.

Arsenal and Chelsea will now play each other for the Europa League trophy on the 29th of May in Baku.

The winner of both trophies will face each other at the start of next season in Istanbul for the UEFA Super Cup, which is currently held by Atletico Madrid who beat Real at the start of the current season.

Thus, there is now a very real chance of the North London derby being the season opener for both Arsenal and Spurs next season.

Spurs Web Opinion

As beautiful as it will be to win the Champions League and then get one over Arsenal in the Super Cup, we at Spurs Web would much prefer Chelsea to win the Europa League as that would ensure that Arsenal finish the season trophyless and have to endure another season of Europa League football.
