Tottenham and four of their big-six rivals are all looking at same England midfielder

Tottenham Hotspur are one of several Premier League clubs eyeing a move for a highly-rated England international, and a journalist has revealed whether the player is keen on a January transfer.

Some pundits have backed the Joao Palhinha-Rodrigo Bentancur partnership to develop into a formidable one for Tottenham, while Pape Sarr has also made an impressive start to the season.

However, with Yves Bissouma appearing to have no way back at Spurs, and the Lilywhites are thought to be eyeing one of the most highly-rated number sixes across the Premier League.

According to reports, Tottenham reached out to Palace over Adam Wharton late in the final days of the summer window, but Oliver Glasner’s men made it clear that their star man is not for sale.

What Tottenham target Adam Wharton is thinking about his future

Spurs have been urged to go back in for Wharton in January, and the Lilywhites may have the financial muscle to push through a deal. This is because ENIC have now injected equity of £100m into the club.

However, journalist Pete O’Rourke has said that Wharton will not be particularly keen on leaving Selhurst Park in January, while the Eagles are under no pressure to sell.

When asked about the England international’s future, O’Rourke told Football Insider: “Obviously, he’s got just under four years left on his deal at Selhurst Park right now until 2029.

“It doesn’t seem he’s in any real massive rush to leave Palace right now, he’s enjoying his football and playing week in, week out in the Premier League.

“He has become a key man in Glasner’s side with Palace doing so well at the moment, having won the FA Cup last year and playing in Europe. It seems Wharton is happy with life at Selhurst Park, but his form and performances will attract interest from other clubs.”

Spurs will face plenty of competition from Wharton

O’Rourke confirmed that Spurs are fans of the former Blackburn star, but he made it clear that the Lilywhites will have plenty of competition for the midfielder.

He named four others of the ‘big six’ and Real Madrid as clubs who are keeping a keen eye on Wharton’s situation.

The journalist added about the Palace midfielder: “Liverpool, Manchester United are admirers, Manchester City, Chelsea, Spurs, and even Real Madrid have all been linked with Wharton. He’s been a revelation since his move to Selhurst Park, and it’s no surprise these elite European clubs are all having a look at him.”
