Tottenham and Liverpool ask to be kept in the loop about £50 Moussa Diaby

While they may have failed to sign any of their January transfer targets, it seems Tottenham have not given up on one assist king.

Let’s be honest, that winter transfer window was a mess for Spurs. Conor Gallagher was the only significant addition to the squad, which has left the club short of quality in key areas.

In particular, the Lilywhites are lacking in the wide positions. With Mohammed Kudus, Wilson Odobert, and Dejan Kulusevski injured, let’s just say it’s a good job Igor Tudor doesn’t really use wingers.

However, after this season, that will probably change, and that’s where Moussa Diaby could come in.

Moussa Diaby is still on Tottenham’s radar

Back in January, it was said Spurs were plotting a late move for Diaby. However, the Al-Ittihad winger stayed put, despite interest also coming from Inter Milan.

Now, Graeme Bailey at TEAMtalk has stated the Lilywhites will try again to sign the former Aston Villa man.

Bailey claims a number of top clubs are being kept in the loop regarding Diaby’s situation, including Tottenham and Premier League rivals like Liverpool, Newcastle, and Chelsea.

Big European clubs like RB Leipzig, Borussia Dortmund, and Atletico Madrid are also keeping an eye on Diaby and it looks like a transfer tug-of-war could break out this summer.

How Diaby compares to current Spurs wingers

Since leaving Villa for Saudi Arabia, Diaby has posted some pretty impressive numbers. Across his two seasons there, he has eight goals and 29 assists in 60 matches. Quite frankly, there is no one at Spurs who comes close to that tally.

Kudus has eight goals but just ten assists. Meanwhile, Odobert has spent most of his time on the sidelines and has managed just five goals and five assists. Obviously, there is the caveat that Diaby has been playing in a far weaker league, but there’s no denying his creative talents.

If Tottenham are to fare any better next season, they need a lot more output from the wide areas. Diaby could well be the solution to that. Now, Spurs just need to stay in the top flight to have a chance of signing him.
