Tottenham and Newcastle United have held talks with intermediaries over a potential deal for a former Premier League striker who managed 25 goals in 96 appearances.

The forward line at Tottenham Hotspur could require a major rebuild heading into the summer transfer window.

Goals have been hard to come by for Tottenham this season, with the Lilywhites scoring a disappointing 36 goals in the Premier League after 26 games.

Richarlison is the club’s leading league scorer with seven goals, while Muani, on loan from Paris Saint-Germain, has managed zero league goals, Tel has three and Solanke, back from injury, has two.

That needs to improve, and entering the transfer market could provide Tottenham with solutions.

Tottenham hold Darwin Nunez transfer talks amid Al-Hilal uncertainty

A report from TeamTalk now claims that Tottenham Hotspur are one of two Premier League sides monitoring Saudi Pro League forward Darwin Nunez.

The 26-year-old has Premier League experience following his three-year stint with Liverpool before he was sold to Al-Hilal.

Nunez arrived at Liverpool as a player with huge potential after an impressive stint at Benfica, but he never truly got going on Merseyside.

The Uruguayan is now struggling for game time since Al-Hilal signed Karim Benzema from rivals Al-Ittihad.

The Frenchman’s arrival has led to Nunez being dropped from the club’s Pro League and Cup squad due to the league’s strict foreign player quota.

As a result, Nunez cannot play league football again this season and is now said to be considering his future.

Spurs face Newcastle competition for Darwin Nunez transfer

Tottenham are not alone in showing interest in the former Liverpool man, with fellow Premier League side Newcastle United also understood to have enquired about his availability.

In Europe, Atletico Madrid and Juventus are said to be long-term admirers and are keen on Nunez if the opportunity arises and the finances are within reach.

However, if the 26-year-old is to secure a move back to Europe, he will need to take a significant pay cut.

That is not expected to be a problem, as it is claimed that Nunez is open to doing so, despite currently earning £400,000 a week in Saudi Arabia.
