Tottenham announce new loan for Alfie Dorrington, and it involves Gary Neville

Highly rated Tottenham Hotspur defender Alfie Dorrington has sealed a deadline day switch to an EFL side for the rest of the season.

Tottenham Hotspur boast of some extremely talented players in their academy at the moment.

Many at the club have big hopes for the likes of Mikey Moore, Luca Williams-Barnett and Callum Olusesi, but there is no guarantee that these players will not fall off as other academy youngsters at Hotspur Way have over the last few years.

A prime example of that is Alfie Dorrington, who was seen as a potential first-team prospect not too long ago, but he has now moved to the fourth division of English football on loan.

Tottenham youngster Alfie Dorrington joins Salford City

Dorrington’s spell in Scotland during the first half of the season did not go according to plan, with Spurs youngster even being left out of Aberdeen’s Europa Conference League squad.

The centre-back returned to Hotspur Way earlier this month after making just six appearances in the Scottish Premiership this season.

It was reported on Monday morning that Salford City were interested in signing Dorrington on loan, and that move has now become official.

Tottenham have now confirmed that the young defender has made a temporary switch to the League Two side, who are owned by a consortium run partly by Man United legends, Gary Neville and David Beckham.

Does Dorrington have a future at Spurs?

The fact that the centre-back has joined a League Two side rather than a Championship or League One outfit is perhaps an indication of how far away he is from contesting for a first-team spot at Tottenham.

However, it is possible that Spurs made this decision to ensure that Dorrington gets regular game time under his belt after his experience at Aberdeen.

At 20 years of age, the Tottenham academy graduate still has time on his side, but the next 12 months will likely be make-or-break for his prospects of making it at N17.
