Tottenham Hotspur appear to be leading the race for the highly sought-after midfielder Angel Gomes – but a winter move is no longer on the cards.

Angel Gomes attracting interest as Lille tenure nears its end
Angel Gomes has found himself at the centre of growing transfer speculation as the midfielder approaches the end of his current contract with Lille OSC.
The 24-year-old, who began his professional career at Manchester United, has established himself as a key player in Ligue 1, earning recognition for his creativity, vision, and composure on the ball.
Tottenham Hotspur are among several clubs linked with the talented midfielder, yet there has been no formal approach or contract offer made to date by the north London club.

Tottenham’s plan for Angel Gomes
According to SkySports news, Tottenham Hotspur, managed by Ange Postecoglou, are reportedly very keen on bringing Angel Gomes to north London in the summer on a free transfer.
The report claims that of all the clubs in contact with the player, Spurs are currently leading the race for his signature, but there is a general belief that a summer move remains the most likely scenario.
The report does not entirely rule out a potential transfer during the January window, as Lille are said to be open to offers if a tempting bid is received, however, the consensus remains that Gomes’ next move will be decided at the end of the season.

Is a January move for Gomes a realistic possibility?
While Tottenham Hotspur are eager to secure Angel Gomes, it seems unlikely that they will make a move for him during the winter transfer window.
From a financial standpoint, a January bid would make little sense, as Lille would undoubtedly demand a fee to part with the player early.
Given Spurs’ prudent approach to squad building under Ange Postecoglou, the more logical and cost-effective strategy would be to wait for the summer when they can sign Gomes on a free transfer.
Furthermore, adding Gomes to their ranks in the summer allows the club to focus on other priorities during the January window, such as reinforcing areas that require immediate attention.
