Tottenham have been overtaken in the pursuit of Sporting Lisbon star Morten Hjulmand ahead of the summer transfer window.

Multiple senior midfielders could leave Tottenham this summer as part of Roberto De Zerbi’s summer rebuild of the squad.

The Lilywhites are thus likely to be in the market for a new midfielder, and Hjulmand has been mooted as a target for Spurs for over a year.

Reports in Portugal have suggested over recent weeks that Tottenham are set to push ahead with a move for the Sporting captain this summer, but another Premier League club has now made a decisive move.

Man United move to pole position to land Tottenham target Morten Hjulmand

A Bola have now claimed that the 26-year-old appears set for a summer exit from Sporting and could be bound for Old Trafford this summer.

It is revealed that after gathering information on Hjulmand, Man United have now ‘jumped into pole position’ to land the midfielder.

While Man City once showed strong interest in the Dane, they have now shifted their attention to Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson.

This has left the ‘path clear’ for their cross-City rivals to secure the services of Hjulmand, whose name has been included in United’s ‘priority list’ for the summer.

Spurs’ fierce rivals could enter the race for Hjulmand

A Bola backs up what other sources have reported by explaining that even though Hjulmand’s release clause stands at €80m (£69m), Sporting would be willing to sell him for around €40m-€50m (£34.5-£43.2m).

The report claims that Juventus has also had a ‘long-standing interest’ in the Portugal international, but their financial issues may prevent the Bianconeri from completing a deal.

Finally, the outlet adds that Arsenal are also keeping an eye on Hjulmand’s situation, and his agent, Ivan Marko Benes, even recently attended the Champions League quarterfinal between the two clubs at the Emirates.
