Tottenham are one of four clubs chasing England star snubbed by Thomas Tuchel

Recent reports reveal that Tottenham Hotspur are amongst several teams said to be monitoring a highly-rated Premier League centre-back ahead of the summer transfer window.

Given Tottenham Hotspur’s 2024/25 campaign, the Lilywhites are expected to be busy this summer, and one area that could certainly do with reinforcements is the defence.

While Kevin Danso, Radu Dragusin, Cristian Romero, and Micky van de Ven provide solid cover, this season has laid bare just how thin that depth is.

Of course, Spurs are fully aware of this—that’s why Tottenham made a £65 million bid for Marc Guehi on the winter transfer deadline day.

Tottenham monitoring Jarrad Branthwaite’s situation at Everton

Fresh reports from Sky Sports have now placed Spurs among several clubs closely monitoring Jarrad Branthwaite’s situation at Everton.

The young English centre-back is reportedly weighing up his options after being left out of new England boss Thomas Tuchel’s squad this international break.

Liverpool and Manchester City are also said to have been keeping tabs on him throughout the season, while Manchester United remain keen on securing his services.

Real Madrid have also shown interest in the 22-year-old, adding further competition in what could be a hotly contested transfer battle.

Why Branthwaite could be a smart move for Spurs

The England U21 international is undoubtedly a top talent and could be a strong addition to Tottenham’s backline.

Real Madrid are reportedly interested in Cristian Romero, as there have been murmurs about a possible departure for the Argentine this summer

If Romero were to leave, Spurs would need a centre-back with Premier League experience to step in, and Branthwaite ticks that box.

However, there is a concern over his injury record. If Spurs were to bring him in, they would potentially have two centre-backs with questionable fitness histories, which could pose a problem across a long and gruelling season.
