Journalist Pete O’Rourke has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are likely to be in the market to sign a new goalkeeper this summer.

The expectation is that Tottenham will undertake an ambitious summer rebuild if they preserve their Premier League status.

The Lilywhites have to strengthen key areas of the pitch and are also facing the prospect of losing some senior men this summer.

One player, who has started every Premier League game for the North Londoners this term, may be one of those who need to be replaced.

Tottenham are expected to sign a new number one this summer

Guglielmo Vicario continues to be heavily linked with a return to Serie A, with Juventus and Inter Milan both thought to be interested in the 29-year-old.

O’Rourke believes that the Italian may well be on his way out of N17 and expects Tottenham to hunt for a new first-choice goalkeeper.

The journalist told Football Insider: “If Vicario does end up leaving Tottenham in the summer, they’re going to have to bring in a replacement.

“There’s no doubt about that, they know they will need a new goalkeeper if they’re going to let their first choice move on in the window.

“His performances this season maybe haven’t been at the level Tottenham would have hoped for, it’s been a difficult season for them. So they will be looking at their options for that in case they are forced into the market.”

Spurs have already identified some potential Vicario replacements

It has been reported by some sources that Man City’s James Trafford is Tottenham’s top target to replace Vicario.

It was claimed by talkSPORT a couple of weeks ago that Sunderland goalkeeper Robin Roefs has emerged as a target for Spurs.

More recently, it has been suggested that Crystal Palace’s Dean Henderson has now entered Tottenham’s wishlist amid the uncertainty over Vicario’s future.
