Tottenham battle five Premier League clubs for £25m Lyon gem

Tottenham Hotspur could reignite their interest in a French starlet who was on their radar in January, but the North London club are expected to be joined by five other Premier League clubs in the race for the player.

Even though Ange Postecoglou is not guaranteed to be at Spurs beyond the end of the season, according to various reports Tottenham have already started planning for the summer window.

There is no doubt that the Spurs squad requires major surgery no matter who takes over as manager, and it turns out that the Lilywhites are set to turn their sights back to a player they wanted to sign in January.

It was reported during the January window that Tottenham explored a deal for Lyon’s Rayan Cherki, but nothing materialised at the time.

Tottenham could sign Rayan Cherki at a discount

TBR Football now claim that Tottenham Hotspur have expressed an interest in Cherki ahead of the summer window and say that the 21-year-old is now poised to leave Lyon.

In fact, the outlet asserts that the winger already has an agreement with the Ligue 1 club that will allow him to move on for less than £25m this summer.

However, the race for Cherki is now heating up ahead of the summer, with Tottenham now being joined by Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool, Aston Villa and Newcastle United, who are all fans of the player.

Additionally, the France Under-21 international is also being watched closely by Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain ahead of the summer.

What Spurs need to do to have a productive summer window

It is clear that Tottenham and their Premier League rivals will be battling it out for many of the same players this summer.

Given that Spurs do not pay competitive wages, the only way they can give themselves a chance to compete for the best players on the market is if they have Champions League football to offer.

It thus looks like Tottenham may have a very difficult summer to navigate unless they manage to win the Europa League.
