Tottenham Hotspur are continuing to improve their backroom staff, and they have now set their sights on a highly-rated Borussia Dortmund official.
To many people’s surprise, Spurs have operated this summer without appointing a new sporting director, with Johan Lange continuing to work with Roberto De Zerbi.
That does not seem to have affected the club much, with the Lilywhites operating very effectively, being one of the busiest clubs across the Premier League so far this window.
While they may not be in a hurry to appoint a new sporting director, they are looking to add to their staff in a bid to improve their recruitment.
Tottenham eyeing Borussia Dortmund’s chief scout Sebastian Krug
Journalist Ben Jacobs has now revealed that Spurs have shown an interest in appointing Borussia Dortmund chief scout Sebastian Krug.
Krug, who has helped the Bundesliga club unearth some real gems over the years, is also on the radar of Newcastle as well as other Premier League and European clubs.
Jacobs wrote on X: “Newcastle United showing an interest in Borussia Dortmund’s chief scout Sebastian Krug. Spurs also looking. Other Premier League and European clubs also have Krug on their radar. Krug played a role in bringing Erling Haaland and Jude Bellingham to Dortmund.”
Why improving their scouting department is crucial for Spurs
Tottenham have undoubtedly changed their modus operandi in the transfer window following Daniel Levy’s exit, with the club prepared to shop for elite players by paying top-of-the-line transfer fees and wages.
Many will feel that the club have to operate in this manner to compete at the top end of the Premier League and win silverware.
However, just spending exorbitant transfer fees for established players will become unsustainable beyond a certain point due to the FFP and PSR restrictions.
That is why Spurs need to supplement this strategy by also hiring the best in class in terms of scouting young talent, especially now that they have a manager who is good at developing young players.
