Tottenham boss Thomas Frank has called for a big rule change in the latter stages of the Carabao Cup in order to encourage more upsets.
Tottenham travel to Newcastle United this evening for a big Carabao Cup clash, with the winner earning a place in the quarterfinal of the competition.
The draw for the quarterfinal of the Carabao Cup will be held immediately after the clash at St James’ Park, and Spurs fans will be desperately hoping that the Lilywhites find themselves in the draw.
However, their head coach wants to see one big change in the format of the competition when it gets into the final four.

Tottenham boss Thomas Frank presents Carabao Cup semifinal proposal
Unlike the FA Cup semifinals, which are one-off games played at Wembley, the Carabao Cup involves a two-legged semifinal.
Frank believes that the rule benefits the bigger sides and serves as a disadvantage to the smaller teams. He suggested that making it a single semifinal will increase the chances of getting new winners.
The Dane said (via The Mirror): “There should only be one semi-final. I said that before at Brentford and that’s why I’m very happy to say it again. For the smaller clubs, if you want to beat a bigger club, it’s much much easier to play only one game.
“So if we really want someone to break out and it’s not the same boring same teams that are winning – of course except for Spurs – then we need to skip one semi-final. For everyone else that plays so many games, it should only be one.
“So if it’s about money then someone needs to fix it. If it’s the Premier League paying money to the EFL, because as far as I understand it’s because of that, so someone fix it. It should be very very easy.”
Frank has set his sights on going all the way in the Carabao Cup
Several Spurs players have said that tasting Europa League success has made the team hungry to win more trophies, and there is no doubt that the Carabao Cup offers the Lilywhites the best chance of making it two trophies in back-to-back seasons.
Thomas Frank has set his sights on lifting the Carabao Cup, promising Spurs fans that he will not name weakened teams in the competitions like some of his predecessors have.
However, getting past holders Newcastle United will be a massive challenge, given the Magpies’ record at St James’ Park.
