Tottenham Hotspur appear to be edging closer to a deal for Mathys Tel, as fresh reports suggest the French youngster could be set for a permanent switch to north London.
Only a few weeks ago, Tottenham Hotspur announced that they would be parting ways with four players, whose contracts are set to expire at the end of June.
Interestingly, Mathys Tel and Ben Davies were left out of that list, with the latter, Davies, having now received a one-year contract extension from Tottenham.
Tel, on the other hand, was expected to return to FC Bayern Munich following his six-month loan spell, but with Tottenham leaving him off their official list of players set to depart the club, speculation surrounding the youngster’s future has only intensified.

Tottenham close to permanent Mathys Tel transfer
It has been well reported by several outlets that Tottenham are looking to keep Mathys Tel in north London, but they are not willing to pay the £45 million option included in his initial winter loan deal.
Instead, the club are attempting to negotiate a lower fee for the winger, with a figure in the region of £30 million being floated.
In fact, Bayern Munich’s director of sport recently confirmed that conversations are ongoing with Tottenham regarding a deal for the French youngster, though he declined to delve into the specifics of those talks.
Now, a fresh report from Bild states that Mathys Tel is on the verge of joining Tottenham on a permanent basis. It is claimed that securing the winger’s services permanently has always been the plan, and that Thomas Frank is keen to retain him for the long term.
Spurs fans will be delighted as Mathys Tel deal nears completion
It is said that advanced negotiations between FC Bayern Munich and Tottenham continue, with Spurs looking to pay a €35 million (£29.6 million) fixed fee, while the €10 million (£8.5 million) loan fee has already been paid.
Once an agreement has been reached, Mathys Tel is expected to sign a long-term contract, with the deal already believed to be in its final stages and close to completion.
Spurs fans have since made their feelings clear about the prospect of signing Tel permanently, with many urging the club not to trigger the original £45 million option to buy.
Instead, supporters have consistently insisted on a cut-price deal, and this latest development will certainly be welcomed by them.
