Tottenham confirm Antonio Conte is to undergo surgery today

Tottenham Hotspur have revealed that head coach Antonio Conte will today undergo surgery after becoming unwell.

The Italian has been suffering from severe abdominal pain and after investigations was diagnosed with cholecystitis and will now undergo an operation to remove his gallbladder.

Conte is expected to be away from the club for some time to recuperate following the procedure.

The NHS claim that it can take a person around take around 2 weeks to return to normal activities for keyhole surgery while those who undergo open surgery will have a longer recovery time which is typically 3 to 4 weeks to return to their normal activities and between 6 to 8 weeks if the individual has a more physically demanding role.

Tottenham are back in action in Sunday when they host Premier League champions Manchester City at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and will now likely be under the leadership of assistant manager Cristian Stellini while Conte continues his rehabilitation.

The north Londoners also travel to AC Milan later this month when they take on the Serie A giants in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League round of 16 tie at the San Siro.

The official Spurs statement read: “Antonio Conte recently became unwell with severe abdominal pain.

“Following a diagnosis of cholecystitis, he will be undergoing surgery to remove his gallbladder today (Wednesday) and will return following a period of recuperation.

“Everyone at the Club wishes him well.”

Our thoughts are with Antonio and his family at this time, given the fact his wife and daughter live in Italy only make the situation more challenging.

Hopefully, it won’t be too long before fans are able to see the Italian jumping around on the touchline in N17 again.
