Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that one arrest was made this afternoon after the London Derby against Chelsea, with ‘homophobic chanting’ cited as the reason.
Spurs came out on top of the encounter at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium thanks to goals from Oliver Skipp and Harry Kane, while Chelsea continued their run of 11 games without a win.
However, it has now emerged that one fan in attendance was arrested due to offensive and discriminatory chanting during the Premier League match. The person has not been named, nor has the chant in question.
Tottenham chose to quote tweet an original report of the chant in question though, with one fan claiming to have heard homophobic language before the kick-off and just after the red card.
The club clearly investigated the matter immediately and an arrest was made later in the day, with Spurs announcing it just after 6 pm UK time.
While the chant has not been confirmed, the Mirror reminded fans that the FA will now take strict action against the use of the homophobic term ‘rent boy’, which has been directed towards Chelsea fans in the past.
We can confirm an individual was arrested for use of homophobic language. There is no place for discrimination at Tottenham Hotspur. https://t.co/tsc9VbqR3i

Spurs Web Opinion:
Some people just need to grow up. There are plenty of things you can sing at your rivals to wind them up without being homophobic, sexist, racist, or anti-Semitic. The fact that a lot of people still don’t see anything wrong with it is a huge problem in football. We are so far behind the rest of society, I’m afraid.
