Tottenham confirm club legend has ‘successfully’ undergone artery surgery

Tottenham have confirmed that club legend Gary Mabbutt successfully underwent Carotid artery surgery on Thursday.

Mabbutt made 611 appearances for Tottenham from 1982 to 1998, serving as club captain for 11 years (Tottenhamhotspur.com).

The central defender, who helped the Lilywhites lift the FA Cup in 1991 as well as the UEFA Cup in 1984, has served as a club ambassador after his retirement.

The 60-year-old returned to manage Spurs legends in their clash with Inter legends back in 2019 in an exhibition game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium soon after the stadium’s opening.

Spurs have now taken to social media to confirm that the legendry central defender has had Carotid artery surgery and wished him a speedy recovery.

Mabbut’s former Tottenham teammate and club legend Micky Hazard has also taken to social media to confirm that the 60-year-old’s operation went well.

Hazard backed Mabbut to recover from his current predicament, pointing out that the fight that the central defender showed to continue his professional career despite being diagnosed with diabetes.
