Tottenham confirm Conte exit and announce new temporary head coach

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that Antonio Conte has departed his role as head coach of the club, with Cristian Stellini taking charge as interim head coach until the end of the season and Ryan Mason serving as his assistant.

The 53-year-old launched a brutally honest assessment of his Tottenham players and the club after watching the north Londoners throw away a 3-1 lead with fifteen minutes remaining on Saturday at bottom of the table Southampton.

The dropped points have put further pressure on Tottenham’s hopes of finishing in the top four of the Premier League table this season with the club having picked up 49 points from 28 games but Newcastle United, in fifth, have 47 from 26 games.

The Telegraph reported on Monday evening that Conte would not back down from his comments on the Tottenham squad and sources believed that it made it almost impossible for him to continue in the job for the rest of the season.

Levy was said to have sought the advice of some of his most trusted allies before he came to his decision which has resulted in Tottenham now looking for yet another head coach.

The Athletic previously reported that Conte was set to leave at the end of the season when his contract was set to expire, however, his exit has now been brought forward in the wake of his comments at St Mary’s.

When Antonio Conte took over at Tottenham Hotspur in November 2021, the club’s morale was on the floor and he departs with the mood in a similar manner.

There has not been a bigger disconnect between many supporters and those in charge in arguably the 20-year tenure of ENIC and they must get this next appointment right.

Spurs have been down the route of being a Poundland Chelsea and also trying quick wins with the likes of Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte.

They must back the next manager to the hilt and also live up to the reneged promise of going back to our DNA, it looks like another ‘project’ is on the cards.
