Tottenham confirm defender has left on season-long loan deal

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that Joe Rodon has left the club to join Rennes on a season-long loan deal.

Fabrizio Romano claimed last week on Twitter that the Welshman will move to the Ligue 1 club for the upcoming campaign which also includes an option to make the deal permanent for €20m (£16.7m).

Rodon had previously been linked with a move to Italy with Sampdoria (SampNews24), however, his first taste of club football outside of the UK will instead take place in France.

The 24-year-old played the full 90 minutes in Tottenham’s 2-2 draw at Rennes in the UEFA Conference League back in September while Nuno Espirito Santo was in charge, which was one of only ten appearances made throughout the season (transfermarkt).

Rennes finished fourth in Ligue 1 last season, which saw them qualify for the Europa League

It was important for Rodon to secure himself regular first team football this season ahead of his involvement at the World Cup in November with Wales.

Rodon can count himself unlucky not to have been given more game time under Antonio Conte, especially after Eric Dier was sidelined at the turn of the year.
