Tottenham confirm defender has signed pro deal just a day after his birthday

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that Charlie Sayers has signed his first professional contract with the club.

The defender turned 18 yesterday and the north Londoners have wasted no time in handing rewarding him following an impressive start to life at Tottenham having joined from Southend United in December.

Sayers arrived at Tottenham as a second-year Under-18s player, joining the scholarship programme from the National League club, where he had made six appearances for the Shrimpers earlier in the campaign (transfermarkt).

In recent weeks Sayers has made the step up to Under-23 level, having started the 7-1 defeat to Liverpool along with the 3-1 win at home to Leicester City.

Yesterday, Spurs announced that 23-year-old goalkeeper Brandon Austin had also committed his future by signing a new deal until the summer of 2024.

Sayers looks to be one of the brightest talents in the academy and will now look to impress at Under-23 level, having been given the reward of stepping up a level after some decent performances for the Under-18’s.
