Eric Dier, Ivan Perisic, Ryan Sessegnon and Japhet Tanganga have all officially departed the club following the conclusion of their contracts.

Dier joined Harry Kane at Bayern Munich in January on an initial loan until the end of the season, with the option for a further year.

He spent the last nine and a half years in north London after signing from Sporting Lisbon in 2014, and made 365 appearances for Spurs since, scoring 13 goals.

Ange Postecoglou’s rebuild continues

The England international was a key player of the Mauricio Pochettino era, most regularly in midfield and featured in just four games since the start of 2023/24 under Ange Postecoglou prior to his exit.

Perisic suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in September and joined Hajduk Split on loan for the rest of the season in January.

The Croatian made 50 appearances for the north London club since signing from Inter Milan in May 2022, scoring one goal.

Dier, Sessegnon and Perisic have all left Tottenham

Ryan Sessegnon‘s time at Tottenham was marred by numerous injury issues which saw him fail to live up to the early promise he showed during his time at Fulham.

Hamstring issues really have halted his ability to play regularly under numerous managers as part of the Tottenham Hotspur first team squad and he never really looked comfortable when coming in for two or three games at a time.

Like Sessegnon, Tottenham had the option to extend Japhet Tanganga‘s contract but a further year but passed up on the opportunity to do so.

Tanganga had a tough time on loan at FC Augsburg at the start of last season where he failed to make an appearance, but did enjoy a better spell at Millwall from January onwards.

All four players have rightly left the club for their own sake in order to re-energise their careers. While Perisic is coming to the end of his, he did start the season brightly under Ange Postecoglou and the opportunity to return to his boyhood club to bring the curtain down on what has been a brilliant stint in football was too good to turn down.

Eric Dier has settled well into life in Germany and became a regular under Thomas Tuchel in Bayern’s campaign which saw them make the semi-final of the Champions League.

I really hope that Sessegnon’s most recent hamstring operation, which was on the other side to his previous can finally rectify his problems and he goes on to have a solid career elsewhere.

Tanganga restored some belief during his time at Millwall that he is a very capable defender and could have put himself back in the shop window for a move to a Premier League team in the lower half of the table.

The departure of all four will now save the club hundreds of thousands of pounds per week which instead will hopefully be re-invested towards new transfer targets.
