Tottenham confirm first-team player has undergone surgery for injury problem

Tottenham Hotspur have officially confirmed that Richarlison underwent groin surgery today to fix an existing injury.

The statement added that Richarlison will commence rehabilitation with the staff at Hotspur Way immediately and should return to first-team training ‘in the coming weeks’.

This means that Ange Postecoglou is without Richarlison, Manor Solomon, and Ivan Perisic in that left attacking role, while Bryan Gil and Brennan Johnson also only returned from injury recently.

Richarlison undergoes groin surgery at Spurs

Richarlison informed the media earlier this week that he was set to undergo surgery soon to fix a problem in his pubis, a problem he has been suffering from throughout the season (ESPN).

The Brazilian has been far from his best for the Lilywhites since joining the club from Everton, and will have to fight for his starting spot when he returns towards the end of the year.

Heung-min Son has been deployed down the middle with success by Postecoglou, while there are plenty of players putting their hat in the right for the left-wing spot.

Spurs Web Opinion:

Richarlison needs a hard reset. I was hoping that would happen over the summer, but he has had issues on and off the pitch this season. Hopefully, he can have a heroic moment off the bench when he returns from this injury and that will kickstart some form.
