Tottenham confirm promotion for key 47-year-old at Hotspur Way

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that Simon Davies has been appointed as the director of the club’s academy.

This move comes after Spurs‘ former academy manager Dean Rastrick vacated his position at the North London club last week, with the club confirming that the 47-year-old wanted to pursue ‘new challenges and opportunities’.

According to reports, he is expected to accept a senior role at the Football Association, where will be linking up with former Tottenham academy director John McDermott, who is the FA technical director (Football Insider).

Tottenham promote Davies to Academy Director

The role vacated by Rastrick has now seemingly been filled by Davies, who will now serve as the club’s academy director.

Davies has extensive experience in coaching, having begun his career at Chester City before taking over as assistant manager of Manchester City’s Under-21s back in 2013.

He went on to progress through the ranks at the Etihad before eventually taking over as the club’s head of academy coaching in 2018 and then joined as Vincent Kompany’s assistant at Anderlecht a year later.

Davies joined Tottenham as the head of the methodology for the Under-21s a year ago and has now been promoted to oversee the entire operation of the academy.

Fabio Paratici began restructuring the academy set up and it appears as if the club are now continuing the 50-year-old’s work.

Some of the objectives and cultural cornerstones might have changed following the Italian’s departure, with the club seemingly going in a slightly different direction.
