Tottenham confirm striker has signed contract extension

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that Kion Etete has signed a new contract until 2023 and has joined Northampton Town on a season-long loan deal.

The 19-year-old has been training with the Tottenham senior side under Nuno Espirito Santo during pre-season and will now link up with the League Two club to gain first-team footballing experience.

The striker has previously featured in League Two, having turned out on four occasions for Notts County during the 2018/19 campaign prior to his move to North London (transfermarkt).

Etete has found himself up against tough competition for the attention of previous Tottenham managers with Troy Parrott and Dane Scarlett both having featured for the first-team.

Football Insider have claimedpreviously reported that Spurs were prepared to offer Etete to the Cobblers as part of a deal that would see the club spend £1million to try and land the highly-rated forward Caleb Chukwuemeka.

A season in League Two will be of much better benefit to Etete to play against seasoned professionals, rather than another campaign of Premier League 2 football.

With chances to break into the first team at Spurs appearing to be limited, he has the opportunity to prove he can be a regular at Northampton.
