Talented goalkeeper prospect Luca Gunter has signed a professional contract with Tottenham, the club has confirmed.

The 17-year-old signed a scholarship deal with Spurs last summer having spent time in the youth set-up since the age of 12.

However, his debut was delayed until October of last year after sustaining an injury while on international duty with England Under-17s. And his displays this season have managed to earn him his first pro deal in his career.

Gunter has since played predominantly for the club’s Under-18 team, making 10 appearances in all competitions this term and recently made the squad for the Under-23s (Transfermarkt).

He will continue to compete with fellow youth keepers Joshua Oluwayemi, Thimothee Lo-Tutala and Adam Hayton for a position between the sticks across both academy sides.

Spurs Web Opinion:

Spurs need to carry on focusing on the academy set-up and continuing to fill it with young players that can make it all the way to the first-team.

It can be a really effective way of building for the future and discovering some seriously talented young players on a relatively cost-effective basis.
