Tottenham consider major Adam Wharton move as midfield plans take shape

Tottenham Hotspur are intent on strengthening their midfield in 2026 and are now looking to step up interest in a £100m midfielder they were keen on last summer.

Tottenham Hotspur remain intent on strengthening their squad in 2026, with several positions already highlighted internally as needing reinforcement.

Spurs have already moved to bolster their midfield with the addition of Conor Gallagher, who joined for £35 million from Atletico Madrid.

Tottenham had to bide their time before landing the former Chelsea man, despite showing interest back in 2024, but it is understood Spurs are now looking to return for another player they have tracked for some time.

Tottenham step up interest in Adam Wharton transfer

This report comes from TeamTalk, who claim that Tottenham are interested in stepping up their pursuit of Adam Wharton this year.

It is believed Spurs would be prepared to make a very significant offer for the midfielder, whom they had already shown interest in last summer.

Crystal Palace, however, do not want to let go of the England international, although it is explained there is an acceptance that Wharton would be allowed to depart should the right bid arrive.

What Wharton interest could mean for Spurs

The Eagles have already lost Marc Guehi, while there is an expectation that Oliver Glasner is also set to depart this summer.

As a result, the club will be desperate for a rebuild, which is likely to see them demand a significant fee for Wharton should he leave at any point.

Last summer, a fee of around £100 million was quoted for the Palace midfielder and, with interest only expected to increase in the next transfer window, that figure is unlikely to drop. A January move is considered almost impossible given the financial outlay involved.
