Tottenham could battle Man United for Championship midfield star

Tottenham Hotspur have already identified a midfielder they want to sign during the summer transfer window, but Manchester United are just as keen on securing the player.

January proved a productive month for Spurs

A lot of Spurs fans were left frustrated by just how late Tottenham left it to do their business in January, but the club did end the window on a positive note with the acquisitions of Kevin Danso and Mathys Tel.

The pair joined goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky, who was signed at the start of January, with the trio’s arrival giving Ange Postecoglou some decent options across the pitch.

It turns out that the North London club also tried and failed to lure an EFL starlet in the summer and are now expected to try again for the player in the summer.

Spurs and Man United both like Hayden Hackney

GiveMeSport reveal that Spurs are fans of Middlesbrough midfielder Hayden Hackney and his consistent displays at the Riverside Stadium this season even convinced the Premier League side to make a January approach for the player.

Boro turned down that approach, but Tottenham are allegedly continuing to keep a close eye on the 22-year-old and may return for another assault in the summer.

However, they will have to deal with competition from Man Utd, who are keen on additions in the middle of the park and have also been impressed with Hackney.

The outlet suggests that either club would have to make a bid in the region of £20m to win the race for the Englishman.

Hayden Hackney’s future might depend on Middlesbrough’s fate

GiveMeSport point out that while Boro were swift to knock back approaches for Hackney in the summer, they might be forced to cash in at the end of the season if they fail to win promotion to the top flight.

Michael Carrick’s men currently sit in seventh place in the Championship table, only behind West Brom, who occupy the final playoff spot, on goal difference.

However, this update makes it clear that Tottenham and Man Utd might not be the only ones contemplating offers for Hackney in the summer, with Boro expecting ‘a clamour’ for the services of their academy graduate during the next transfer window.
