Tottenham could do something more ’embarrassing’ than relegation, says ex-Arsenal star

Tottenham Hotspur are on the brink of embarrassment in the Premier League, but a former Arsenal women’s player has warned other European clubs of an even more shocking situation.

The Champions League is the only competition Tottenham Hotspur have any chance of winning this season, but even this feels like a huge stretch.

Yes, it is factually correct information, but nobody in their right mind is actually suggesting that Spurs will secure European football’s most coveted prize.

However, former Lioness Fara Williams has come up with a ‘what if’ scenario about Tottenham winning the Champions League and what that would say about the state of teams in Europe.

Fara Williams says Tottenham Champions League win would be embarrassing

Writing in her TNT Sports column, Williams has discussed the likelihood of Spurs winning the Champions League. According to the ex-England women’s international, this would be a bigger shock than Tottenham suffering relegation from the Premier League.

Williams also revealed that should this somehow happen, it would be embarrassing for clubs currently competing in the competition.

She wrote: “If you were to ask me what the bigger shock would be – Spurs getting relegated or Spurs winning the Champions League, I would say the latter.

“There are far superior teams than Spurs in the competition, so if they manage to somehow win the Champions League this season, I would say it is embarrassing for the rest of the teams in Europe.

“They have to start showing more consistency until the end of the season, and, once they avoid relegation from the Premier League, they can start to rethink everything in the summer.”

Spurs fans are not interested in conversations about the Champions League

If a Tottenham supporter is talking about going to Budapest, it is highly likely they are joking, unless they are living in a state of denial.

It is hard to disagree with Williams’ comments, but it is not clear why she is making them in the first place when no one expects Spurs to win the Champions League anyway.

Ultimately, this just feels like another football commentator looking to aim a dig at Tottenham by bringing up a scenario that will never happen.

We could be talking about what will happen if Manchester United win the Premier League, but it does not happen because everyone knows it is almost impossible. Therefore, discussions about Spurs should follow that same logic.
