Tottenham could have another postponed fixture in the coming weeks

Tottenham Hotspur already need to squeeze in a game against Chelsea before the end of the season, but if Manchester City continue to progress in the FA Cup, the Lilywhites may need to find time to reschedule the fixture against Pep Guardiola’s side, too.

With no European football to deal with, and relatively early exits from both domestic cup competitions, you would have thought Tottenham‘s schedule in the Premier League this season would be fairly straightforward.

Indeed, it has been so far, but complications are on the horizon for Ange Postecoglou‘s side, it seems.

The Lilywhites have already had one game postponed—Spurs were supposed to play Chelsea last Friday, but that game was taken off the schedule due to Mauricio Pochettino‘s team making it to the Carabao Cup final.

How Manchester City could affect Tottenham’s schedule

It remains to be seen when that game will eventually take place, but Spurs now also have to keep an eye on Manchester City’s FA Cup run, too, as it could cause further issues for the North London club’s calendar.

As per a piece from Football.London, if City were to beat Newcastle United in the FA Cup quarter-final on March 16th, they will have a semi-final lined up for the weekend of April 20th.

That will clash with the original date for Tottenham’s next meeting with City, which is currently scheduled for April 20th. Something will have to give, and it will not be the cup tie.

However, there are two ways to look at this, with Football.London weighing up the pros and cons. On the one hand, removing that City game from an incredibly tough run of fixtures—Spurs currently face Arsenal and Liverpool after that match—could be a blessing in disguise when it comes to momentum.

However, the downside is that the game will likely be rescheduled for a midweek date, which would leave Postecoglou’s men less time to prepare after a weekend game for the immense challenge of stopping City in their tracks. It would also leave Spurs with a heavily congested end-of-season run, too.

Spurs Web Opinion

This is a headache waiting to happen, but so be it. Whatever has to be done to get the fixtures planned in, whenever we play City or anyone else, it’s always going to be a tough game anyway, so we just have to roll with the punches and play when we play.
