Report: Spurs duo could miss two PL games due to quarantine obligations

Tottenham Hotspur could face losing Giovani Lo Celso and new signing Cristian Romero as they have been called up to Argentina’s squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

Argentina is currently on the red list for travel from the United Kingdom meaning the two players, if they fly out, will have to isolate for 10 days upon their return from South America.

Argentina face Venezuela, Brazil, and Bolivia on September 3, 5, and 10 which then renders them massive doubts for Spurs’ Premier League fixtures against Crystal Palace and Chelsea.

The Daily Mail claim that Tottenham, alongside other clubs, are furious about the situation due to their players potentially missing Premier League matches because of quarantine rules.

Aston Villa are also in a similar situation with two of their players, Emi Martinez and Emiliano Buendia, with both also being called up to the Argentina squad.

Liverpool have taken the next step by refusing to release Mohamed Salah, who was due to be on international duty next week (The Guardian).

It remains to be seen whether Spurs will do the same with their two Argentinian players.

This would be frustrating. Although they could only miss two to three games, isolating for ten days would affect their fitness and rhythm.

It would be the last thing that Romero especially needs. But they could be well within their right to want to represent their country, so the situation could become tricky.
