Yet in the clash against the Reds, we learned that this Spurs side still has some fight in them, as they battle with Nottingham Forest, West Ham United and Leeds United to avoid the drop.
With a single point earned from their 1-1 draw with Liverpool, Tottenham are still in 16th but are level on points with both Forest and the Hammers.
Next week, Spurs take on Nottingham Forest at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in what is a pivotal game in the relegation fight.
A victory there and some daylight is created between themselves and the bottom three, but a loss could send them below those dotted lines.
Tottenham will need all the help they can get, and they could potentially see five of their players return to the side against Forest.

Tottenham could welcome Cristian Romero and Joao Palhinha back from concussion
Spurs were hoping that they would welcome their captain back to the side against Liverpool following his four-game ban after his sending-off against Manchester United a few weeks ago.
However, that return was delayed due to concussion protocols following Cristian Romero‘s head clash with Joao Palhinha in the tie against Atletico Madrid last Tuesday.
Having missed the Liverpool game, the pair could return for Spurs for their all-important six-pointer against Nottingham Forest next weekend.
Spurs could have Conor Gallagher back after illness
Igor Tudor relayed ahead of the game against Liverpool that Conor Gallagher was a doubt because of a fever.
The former Atleti man was not included in the Spurs starting XI against the Reds, confirming his absence.
With it being an illness, one would expect it will not keep him out for too long. He could be back for the Atleti clash and, if he misses that encounter, then he could return on Sunday.
Spurs hopeful Destiny Udogie will return from injury
While Tudor broke the bad news that four other players were set to be unavailable ahead of the Liverpool clash, there was some positive news.
The Croat stated that Udogie could return for Tottenham against Forest, but he would miss the games against Liverpool and Atletico Madrid.
The Italian full-back has been out for about a month now, having been substituted after picking up a hamstring problem against United.
His return will be a big boost for Spurs down that left flank as he will bring much-needed balance to attacks, given that he is left-footed.
Tottenham set for Micky van de Ven return after suspension
It was a makeshift backline against Liverpool with Radu Dragusin and Kevin Danso lining up at the back for Spurs.
The pair held their own and conceded just the one goal, a strike that did not come from open play.
However, some normality should return next week as Micky van de Ven is expected to be available, having completed his suspension following the red card he picked up in the game against Crystal Palace.
If he returns and Romero is passed fit, Tottenham could have their starting backline available for the first time since the United game under Frank.
The Dutchman also represents the only player who is absent, not because of injury.
