Tottenham defender claims his side deserve ‘so many trophies’

Tottenham Hotspur fell short in a domestic cup semi-final for the umpteenth time this week, losing 4-2 on penalties to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Spurs have had a number of nearly moments in terms of silverware since Pochettino took over at the club, including a League Cup final, three cup semis, and two Premier League title challenges.

In fact, Tottenham have been without a single piece of silverware in over a decade, with their last being the Carling Cup in 2008.

Mauricio Pochettino has also never won a trophy as a manager, something he will be disappointed he has not achieved thus far.

Spurs are still in the FA Cup this season, as they take on Crystal Palace in the fourth round today.

They are also still in the hunt for the Premier League and Champions League, although they have a rather slim chance in both at this point.

Spurs defender Jan Vertonghen believes his current side deserves ‘so many trophies.’

He said this about the FA Cup (Guardian): “It’s very important. This team deserves so much more, so many trophies. Over the last five years, we haven’t had a lot of luck. We’ve been so good. It would be a big shame if we don’t reward ourselves. Everyone in the club deserves that reward.”
